New Redistricting Plans - Lots of Kids Moving

The new school redistricting plan will be voted on by the current Board of Education in the end of November. For now, please read these stories:

County Reveals Redistricting Plan for 2007-08 - The View from Ellicott City

1269 elementary and 217 middle school students will be moving to different schools for the 2007-2008 school year. It just seems odd that students across the street from a school (i.e. Glenwood Middle or new Northeastern Elem) will be going to schools much farther away.

To see the Feasiblity Study that details the redistricting plans

Some numbers

Elementary Schools
153 students Hollifield Stn to St. John's Lane
105 students Northfield to New Northeastern
33 students Northfield to Thunder Hill
35 students St. John's Lane to Centennial Lane
453 students St. John's Lane to New Northeastern
147 students Waverly to St. John's Lane
193 students Worthington to New Northeastern
84 students Bellow Spring to Waterloo ES
66 students Bryant Woods to Running Brook MS
Middle Schools
118 students Elkridge Landing to Mayfield Woods
99 students Glenwood MS to Folly Quarter MS

Your thoughts? What will BRAC or Town Center development really do to school enrollments?

I had no idea that this many students are redistricted each year. I can't believe that parents just accept this annual event.
