Costly replacement for SMS

It will be very costly to replace the current computer system that helps to track the information required by the Federal No Child Left Behind mandate. Estimates are from $5 million to as high as $17 million. This is in addition to ongoing items like staff salaries and renovation costs that will also increase annually.

What's Next for the School Grading System?

SMS didn't work. Grade Transporter is a short term solution. A long term solution is needed. The problem is that it is going to cost big money. When Courtney Watson asked several months ago how much a new system would cost, the answer given was several million dollars.

SIMS is out of Control

Once again SIMS is not meeting the needs of the HCPSS students. This email originally appeared on the Howard Public Education newslist.

Interim Reports will be handed out today to all students. Because of issues with the school system's computer program, the reports this quarter will be hand written. We encourage you to review your child's interims and contact their teacher's if you have concerns.

That just came from the Glenelg pta. This is unbelievable! This software should have never been implemented when it did. I have a background in Computers (Right now studying Computer Forensics) and work for a company PT that does Bus routing and driver selection software for some systems in Maryland like Harford County. The following is the flaws I see..

1. $650,000 is way over priced for a piece of software that does not work.
2.There should have been a study on IT infastructure whether or not HCPSS could handle.
3. The system can't do what it is suppose to which is track interim grades for students and report card grades. Look @ above example.

The current board should be held accountable for this debacle.
